There is nothing I can do about that. TeX does not report an error 
status on errors like those. According to TeX, this is inside its 
operational parameters. This is why I call it a 'critical error'. There 
are errors which do not produce error status and which are therefore 
undetectable. The really critical errors can be detected. Hence the 
subtle difference.
