I'd whinged about wanting nicer lists....

I really wish there was finer, more granular control over the spacing, 
with more sensical, better named operators. booktabs just works and 
makes sense to a person coming from a traditional typography 
background, the list environments I've found thus far just infuriate 
and confuse (me at least) when one tries to change their behaviour.

The problem is the list environment is so much used elsewhere in TeX 
that AFAICT it's much more hard-coded in its behaviour than it ought to 
be (e.g., Memoir's adjustwidth environment is built on top of a 
trivlist).

Interestingly, I'm given to understand that ConTeXt grew out of an 
initial LaTeX package to make lists more manageable.
