Illustrator will import a long of things, including .pdf as well as .eps

Encapsulating the font for Adobe Illustrator is a non-starter for
(La)TeX math / symbol fonts w/ non-standard encodings.

AI uses the local system's text object and has to re-encode the text to
the local system's (Mac or Windows or Unicode?) encoding to work with
it. (This wasn't always the case, and it used to be possible to put a
snippet of PostScript code into a text string to force it to be
re-encoded or some such so that Textures was able to generate .eps
files which Adobe Illustrator 6 and earlier could manage).

But I'm sounding like a broken record.

Anyway, there are some projects to make sanely encoded (Unicode) math
fonts for (La)TeX --- once one of those is complete and there's a
matching set of fonts for Windows or Mac OS X, it'll ``just work''
(insofar as anything works in Adobe Illustrator).
