The following

			\begin{center}
			\begin{tabular}{ccc}
			\vspace{.25pc}
			$\spadesuit$ On the \emph{counter}, we \emph{have}: & \hspace{1pc} &
\ding{118} On the \emph{board}, we \emph{write}:\\
			\vspace{0.5pc}
			$\underbrace{\embf{dime, dime  \hspace{1pc} dime, dime, dime}}$ &
\hspace{1pc} & $\underbrace{2\;\denom{Dimes}\;+\;3\;\denom{Dimes}}$\\
			Collect & \hspace{1pc} & =\\
			\vspace{0.5pc}
			\embf{dime, dime, dime, dime, dime}& \hspace{1pc} &
$5\;\denom{dimes}$
			\end{tabular}
			\end{center}

obviously called for some footnote of the order of:

			\footnote{Educologists will surely have noticed how the + sign
disappeared with not a whimper.}

But no matter where I inserted it, while the footnote number appeared,
the footnote itself did not.

I see that "you can use footnote commands inside the longtable
environment." (Companion2ed 263).
Do I really have to put my tabular in a minipage and use footenotemark
(Companion2ed 110)?

What am I missing here?

Thanks and regards to all.
