[OS X TeX] Mac OS 8/9 text editors?

I used and liked Pepper too. (Knew it well from my foray into BeOS land.) It was never going to completely replace BBEdit for me as a general purpose editor, but it was IMO a better TeX "writing environment" than BBEdit was at the time. I found Pepper's easily edited and nicely implemented accelerator was well suited to TeX work.

I had some discussion with Maarten before he gave up on Pepper. He had been struggling with the moving of Pepper from WASTE to ATSUI and was not getting the performance that he or his users wanted. Although I knew he was having trouble, I was still surprised that he gave up when he did and by his subsequent, somewhat vitriolic and bitter explanation.
