[OS X TeX] Emacs, X-Symbol and LaTeX-mode

Has anyone gotten the X-Symbol package working with Emacs (not
XEmacs)?

I have installed it, but I don't seem du be able to get any decoding
of LaTeX-files.

Any ideas? Maybe you need to run it in X-Windows for the fonts?
