Hi Ray,

You can set TeXShop in the preferences so that `Configure for
External Editor' is selected then it will never launch its
own internal editor but just latex, tex etc.

Then you can have the file open in BBEdit and work on it and
switch to TeXShop compile, switch back to BBEdit to edit etc.

But TeXShop doesn't know you are using BBEdit and doesn't
pass any information to BBEdit.
You can't do a keycommand in BBEdit to make it compile in TeXShop
or vice-versa.

This means in particular that you cannot get TeXShop to open
BBEdit at the point at which an error occurs. To me this
seems the major problem with this approach.

The TeXShop docs do say:

\begin{quote}
Applescript support for the "external editor option" is still weak;
it will improve in the next version, making it possible to typeset
entirely from within an applescript-capable editor.
\end{quote}

You can also use BBEdit with the BBEdit Tools from
Tom Kiffe (www.kiffe.com) that enable you to run the
command line latex and tex from within BBEdit, launch a
previewer etc.

Michael
