[OS X TeX] how best to draw diagrams

I see that nobody here has suggested metapost.

It is designed for integration with the various TeX's. It is a very good
package that has had many enhancements added recently by Hans Hagen directed
for Context but the pictures can be used in Latex etc. The book on this is
at

It only tells you half of what it can do.
