Dear Gerben,
I tried Acrobat, but the problem remains; then I upgraded my old tetex
to the latest TeXLive-teTex distribution (I downloaded TeX.dmg from the
TeXShop site as well as the i-installer, installed TeX from the TeX.dmg
and in addition ran the i-installer). Result: Same problem as before. I,
then, inspected more closely the log-files (i) when typesetting the
following file:
\documentclass[11pt]{book}
\usepackage[LY1]{fontenc}
\usepackage{times}
\usepackage[mtbold,LY1]{mathtime}
\usepackage{bm}
\begin{document}
\tableofcontents
\chapter{Einleitung}
Das ist Ein Beispiel $\lambda x$ x $\sum_{i=1}^n 1/i$
\end{document}
This results in the following log:
### /usr/local/teTeX/bin/powerpc-apple-darwin-current/dvips -R -u
+psfonts.map -u +pdftex.map -o /tmp/altpdflatex.2263/Probe2.ps
Probe2.dvi
This is dvips(k) 5.86g Copyright 2001 Radical Eye Software
(www.radicaleye.com)
' TeX output 2002.05.19:1837' -> /tmp/altpdflatex.2263/Probe2.ps
<texc.pro><texnansi.enc><8r.enc><texps.pro>.
<mtsyn.pfb><rmtmi.pfb><mtex.pfb>
<utmr8a.pfb>[1] [2] [3]
### ps2pdf /tmp/altpdflatex.2263/Probe2.ps Probe2.pdf
### Succesfully generated Probe2.dvi and Probe2.pdf
and I get the effect I described in the last mail: i.e., the `normal'
times font isn't displayed at all (except some capitals). But if comment
out the "\tableofcontents" everything is again displayed as it should
be. The log in this case says:
### /usr/local/teTeX/bin/powerpc-apple-darwin-current/dvips -R -u
+psfonts.map -u +pdftex.map -o /tmp/altpdflatex.2299/Probe2.ps
Probe2.dvi
This is dvips(k) 5.86g Copyright 2001 Radical Eye Software
(www.radicaleye.com)
' TeX output 2002.05.19:1841' -> /tmp/altpdflatex.2299/Probe2.ps
<texc.pro><texnansi.enc><8r.enc><texps.pro>.
<mtsyn.pfb><rmtmi.pfb><mtex.pfb>
[1]
### ps2pdf /tmp/altpdflatex.2299/Probe2.ps Probe2.pdf
### Succesfully generated Probe2.dvi and Probe2.pdf
The only difference I can see is that the command "\tableofcontents"
(only in interaction with the class "book" and the command "chapter")
causes dvips to load the font <utmr8a.pfb>; and this seems to cause the
problem (or maybe its a hidden newpage).
Does anybody know how to prevent dvips from loading this file and/or
what's going wrong when loading this font?
