[OS X TeX] accented characters in mac-emacs

This might also be related to the XDarwin problem not to have all the 
character sets (for example, command-'-e will not create an accented 
e in X applications). I asked this on the XonX list
http://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=1560404
and apparently people are working on the problem. You can get a 
workaround by defining your own .Xmodmap file that contains, for 
example,
clear shift
clear control
clear mod1
add shift = Shift_L Shift_R
add control = Control_L Control_R
add mod1 = Alt_L Alt_R
keycode 27 = eacute 2
keycode 34 = egrave 7
keycode 37 = agrave 0
keycode 47 = ugrave percent
keycode 33 = ccedilla 9
to emulate part of the french keyboard.
