[Mac OS X TeX] TeXShop / LaTeX Panel

Hi,

If I use the LaTeX Panel to insert an itemize environment, invalid 
characters are inserted, leading to the error message:
	! Text line contains an invalid character.
	l.30   \item ^^?
Same with enumerate/description/cases.
Does anybody else have this problem? Anything that can be done about it?
