It's possible for a given platform to use a proprietary format for the
preview which is unique to that platform (e.g. QuickDraw PICT on the Mac
OS)---using a TIFF representation usually works, though I'm still
outraged that _12_ years after NeXTstep had Display PostScript and what,
5 years after Apple bought NeXT that this is an issue.
