Before deciding on openosx or forked.net could I suggest you read
some of the comments from Christoph Pfisterer
who is one of the main (the main ??) person behind Fink. He has decided
to give up on Fink for two reasons. One is he is tired of answering questions
>from people who don't read the docs. The second is he is sick of arguing
with people who rip off Fink stuff and sell it on CD's and don't even
acknowledge what Fink have contributed - openosx and forked.net seem
the main offenders.
You can read his comments at

at decide for yourself.
I think Fink compatibility is improving but others would know
more about this than me.
