Ok, but your suggestion is inconsistent within T1, though given the
historic circumstances, that may be as good as can be.

??? But that's what I said. When I don't load lucidabr, I have an
optimal setup for cm, when I load lucidabr, I would expect an optimal
setup for LucidaBright - which currently isn't happening, neither wrt to
T1 nor some of the \textXXX.

The T1 case is easy to deal with (if OT1 -> load T1 or warn/barf), the
textcomp case doesn't have an ideal solution. As I can see, the
possibilities are a) ensure textcomp is loaded, b) if textcomp isn't
loaded, automatically suggest it with stating that otherwise the
LucidaBright setup is suboptimal. If a) only happens in some cases, b)
would still be desirable.
