[lucida] Problems with lucida in tetex

    sudo texhash and
    sudo updmap-sys --enable Map=lucida.map

Well, you did the right thing.  But it's clear that the map file was not
actually enabled.  If it were, it wouldn't be trying to make bitmaps.

Does running
 kpsewhich lucida.map
return anything, and if so, what?

Does the output of
 updmap --listmaps
include Map lucida.map?

If you run 
 env VISUAL=true updmap --edit
it should report the location of the updmap.cfg file being used.  Take a
look at that file and see if lucida.map is there.
