[lucida] Error messages

    xdvi-motif.bin: Warning: Checksum mismatch (dvi = 3831537444, vf =

    Warning: Missing charsets in String to FontSet conversion

    Any idea what's going on here and how to correct/remedy the situation?

What's going on is that TeX is typesetting with different tfm's than
xdvi is finding.  Do the fonts show up under xdvi?  Does dvips work?
How about pdftex?

As for how to correct, do you have any TeX-related environment variables
set?  (Try running env|grep texmf.)  Perhaps that is causing the
programs to find different things.  Or likely you have two different
Lucida installations, the one that came with your system and the new one
you specifically ordered.  Where did you install the latter?  Try something
like  locate hlhb8c.vf  to see if you find where the files are, and then
perhaps simply remove the older ones.

Perhaps the most likely goes back to your mktexlsr question.  If
the ls-R file for the hierarchy with the new package is somehow not
being found or messed up, that would cause troubles.  What's the output
from just running mktexlsr?
