<p>A very quick question, Alexander — does this behaviour occur only
with LuaLaTeX, or can it be replicated in (e.g.,) XeLaTeX and/or
PdfLaTeX ? I ask because I have no familiarity with LuaTeX at
all, so if I were to investigate I would choose to do so in
XeLaTeX or PdfLaTeX.</p>
