indeed, and i have definitely have no problem with the tex logo at all 
as it's Don's nice joke; it's just the additional 'funny' shifting in 
derived logos that i dislike (esp when using special fonts as in etex 
and amstex cum suis)

ok, i admit that the random generated metafun logo is also somwhat over 
the top but at least it sits on the baseline

don't worry, we already decided for the simple case long ago; we made 
the decision before the first version of luatex was demonstrated - at 
the tug conference in wuhan/china -)

btw, the first instance luatex binary was generated by hartmut so that 
was actually the moment that the name 'luatex' as program showed up 
first; those historic bits and pieces are described someplace
