some gluespec are, that is, 0pt is one of those predefined ones, so you 
cannot change that gluespec (there is a writable flag test for that)
if you set a glue, best assign a copy of the gluespec and change values 
in the copy; gluespecs are shares and have their own nasty pending  buglets
