[luatex] pdfpages and lualatex?

That's great. I'd like to try out the new version on my real file, but I am
a bit at a loss with the INSTALL file instruction. I never installed a *TeX
executable before. I downloaded the latest snapshot from the repository, and
compiled. The INSTALL file says:

>Post-compilation installation should be a simple matter
>of copying the executable to a normal place for web2c
>binaries and generating the desired formats.

That's a bit sparse. I suppose I shoudl run the compiled luatex executable
with the -ini flag and an ini file. But where should luatex be in order to
find all the files it needs to create the format? Is it even possible to do
this without messing up my current texlive installation?
