I realise I've been (regretably) out of the loop all this time, but my  
opinion here is that since github makes forks so easy there's no huge  
pressing reason for everyone to have push access to each other's  
repositories. In fact, I sort of feel that it can dampen high  
frequency noise of the sort we've seen here, albeit with the downside  
that some things can take a little longer to propagate.
