This is exactly what I mean. I found that the text inside @code is in italics.

I couldn't get @math{} to work; it changed the text to italics.
@math{...} is equivalent to $...$. If you want to typeset text inside
there, you need to do something like @math{@var{foo} > 1} (for a
variable), or @math{@code{\somepenalty} < 10000} or whatever.
If you mean something else, let me know ...
(Karl you also asked about describing the vertical spacing in the
trivlist example, but that proves to be more than just a couple of
words.)
