In the manual that Robin was nice enough to point out, it describes
this options:

$TRANSPARENT_FIGURES = 1;

Does putting that in .html2latex-init help?  Also, I remember a time
when all my documents had gray backgrounds, but I fixed that by
passing l2h the `-white' flag.  I don't imagine that will solve your
problem, but it might be worth a try.

BTW, take my suggestions with a grain of salt.  I'm a helpful beginner :)
