Dear Ross,

happy newyear ;),

the following link shows a possible solution to the problem:

http://www.statmaster.sdu.dk/maskel/docs/eqnhtml/index.html

this will also solwe the internet explorer problem..regarding the table
numbering (from table-wont-inherit-correct-with-from-parent)

if your mail-reader supports html ..its included in the following.

Best,

Peter

---------------------------------- HERE IT GOES

Suggestion to the eqnarray environment to HTML
This first examples shows what does not work....the next two is correct.

     WRONG!!! much longer left much longer left much longer left =
right  (1.1)

     left    =   right  (1.2)

     left = much longer right (1.3)

     left    =      (1.4)

         =   right  (1.5)

We want to force centering around a specific cell (the align center cell)

      much longer left much longer left much longer left = right (1.1)

      left    =   right  (1.2)

      left = much longer right (1.3)

      left    =      (1.4)

          =   right  (1.5)

and another ex....shows that the centered element does NOT rely on the size
of the left or the right cell..for the whole table

      left    =   right  (1.1)

      left    =   right  (1.2)
