[l2h] -external_file?

Hi

I do

latex2html -external_file  somewhere/toolsinstall.aux

but nevertheless I get the error message:

Cannot open toolsinstall.aux No such file or directory

Well,

-external_file

is poorly documented in 

latex2html -help

bit the help seems to indicate that is the way to specify an aux file.

Have I misunderstood the 

-external_file

option.
