[l2h] Forcing Image generation for inlined 'text'

I want to include some text in the original font shapes into my thml documents.

The latex2html documentation reads on page 21:

The \mbox command. Another way to force an image to be created
[...]
e.g. \mbox{...some text...${}$} will cause an image to be generated of the given
text.

This is not working :-(

The solution to use the \begin{makeimage} \end{makeimage} environment isn't
better either, because it causes a line break after the 'image'.


Is there any other solution?
