Hello Fabrice and all,
Jean-Claude has installed TL2003 and WinEdt under XP, but even the most
basic operations fail. Never having run TeX on Windows, I'm sadly out
of my depth here.
I know people need to upgrade to the latest version from fptex.org for
add-ons like ImageMagick and Ghostscript to work, but at this point all
he's trying to do is run TeX, and is not even getting a comprehensible
error message for his pains.
Can you help him please?
Thanks,
karl

Subject: Unexpected "Error"
Dear Karl,
I have have tried to install TeXLive 9 on PC. Everything
seemed OK but there was an error message at the end
for the final "Install".
... the TeXLive report log ... [is attached]
It says there was an error at the last line of the report.
I have also downloaded WinEdt 5.4, clicked on
WinEdt.exe to install it. It is installed with a shortcut
to my desktop.
Then, as I was told to do last year,
I clicked on this shortcut.
This opened WinEdt.
I clicked on "Options",
then on "Configurations",
then on "fpTeX(Web2c)
Then I checked whether it was working on two well tested
LaTeX2e files created last year and printed many times. It
was impossible to compile. There was just a black flash and
the dvi file was never created. Impossible to preview.
Last year, it was possible to edit, compile, preview, print,
but a lot of things were wrong. This time, it is worse:
I cannot compile.
...
I hope you can help me.
With best regards,
Jean-Claude
