As I remember, it's not a problem of mpost but dvips, and only when
metapost files were generated on win (the resulting output has CRLF line
endings), but then imported to unix and dvips'ed here. I reported that
problem several times to Tomas Rokicki, but without any answer...

Staying in windows (mpost-> (la)tex-> dvips) it works well
(mpost from web2c 7.4.5, dvips(k) 5.92b, both kpathsea 3.4.5)
