tfm generation for pdfTeX

Hello fpTeX users,

I would like to be able to use the font stretching and shrinking
mechanism provided by pdfTeX, where one makes font declarations
such as
\font\xxxx = cmr10 at 10 pt stretch 30 shrink 20 step 10
For this one needs tfm files for stretched/shrunken versions of
the fonts. The pdfTeX manual says
"... each scaled font must have its own tfm file! When no
tfm file can be found, pdfTeX will try to generate it by executing
the script mktextfm, where available and supported."
My question is: does the fpTeX version of mktextfm support this,
or is there a way to adapt things to make it work?

Thank you,
Bob Howlett
