DVIPS woes

Thanks for your information guys!

I'm now using the BlueSky/Y&Y fonts (again), but telling pdfTeX to look at
the BaKoMa fonts with priority (thank God for kpathsea, being so nice to
allow this) --- I wouldn't like to rewrite the encoding files for pdfTeX,
but I do like CM in my (occasional) PDF output, without restrictions.

(I just needed the .PFB fonts under dvips to scale .dvi/.ps output with
\specials, where dvi* fails, so those few missing fonts are not that bad;
otherwise Metafont's .pk files are way better on my 300 dpi DeskJet
printer.)
