how to install ornaments with fontinst

Hi all,
I am running into trouble in tying to install ornaments from a font
family. I used \installlatinfamily to install a font family but it did
not install the corresponding ornaments. Since there are no explicit
examples on how to install the ornaments could anybody tell me how to
use fontinst? I 've also tried to use afm2tfm but it keeps telling me
that it cannot locate the afm font file, although I've runned in the
directory where my afm file is...
