Probably the best bet is TeXtrace, <http://www.inf.bme.hu/~pts/textrace/>.

This doesn't make sense. If you want to use them with TeX, original
Metafonts will almost always (unless you are really really good - but then
you wouldn't be asking questions like these, would you?) be superior to
the Type 1 fonts you convert them to.
