I've been trying (yet again) to work out how fontinst behaves, and I can't
work this out from reading the source code (which remains as opaque as
ever) or any of the notes I've made over the last week or so.
What I'm wondering is this. When fontinst says this (and assuming it can
find pckr8rn.afm/mtx):
INFO>to make LaTeX (family,weight,shape,width) pck,m,n,c: seek pckr8rn
It seems to me that fontinst should create these vpl files and
corresponding fd file entries:
pckr8tn
\DeclareFontShape{T1}{pck}{mc}{n}{
<-> pckr8tn
}{}
pckr7tn
\DeclareFontShape{OT1}{pck}{mc}{n}{
<-> pckr8tn
}{}
Am I right?
Rowland.
