Well, using registry for settings won't work for portable
installations (you will leave your settings behind on whatever
computer you happen to save them on).  The other argument to give is
that, if you have dviout installed separately from TL, it might
interfere with the one from TL (or vice versa).  OTOH, I'm not sure
anymore that our current implementation solves any of these problems
(the -NULL switch doesn't seem to do what I thought it does,
apparently), so we might as well follow through with the patch.
