Are you not familiar with the MathPlayer plug-in to Acrobat ?

This does a great job of reading MathML from tagged PDFs.

 

I’ve used MathPlayer in the HTML context. It also processes MathML embedded in Microsoft Word documents via MathType.

 

How does it handle tagged PDF? Is the MathML encoded as part of the structure tree, or is there a means of embedding the XML syntax of MathML directly?
