The advantage of having *one* standard is that people can prepare font
packages as .tar.gz or .zip files which contain a TDS compliant
directory structure.

I like texmf/fonts/supplier/typeface/type/ more than that what we have
today.  But for a normal user, the directory structure doesn't matter,
if he just has to install such a package.

I strictly recommend to either change the standard or leave it as it
is, but never allow for an alternative.
