For the record: I mentioned the point that one needs different macro
file search paths for different formats very early. (Partly, because
I use them since years in my installation setups, utilizing shell
scripts.) The reason above was implied. I don't think that
explicating the reason would have changed the outcome -- no
experience exists for more radical approaches, and developers won't
support them anyhow.
