    "texmf/metafont/lamstex", 
If the lamstex mf files are actually fonts, not macro definitions,
they'd go in texmf/fonts/source/lamstex.

    "texmf/bst" and "texmf/bib" directories. Why? Is it not reasonabel that the
    "texmf/bst"-directory is subdivided as "texmf/bibtex/bst/package", or

Do you know of any actual bst and bib packages that are
maintained/upgraded like macro packages, etc.?
