All this 8+3 discussion reminds me of the late stages of LaTeX 2.09 
where internal documentstyle option such as \ds@titlepage had to be
introduced to load external files with 8+3 names such as titlepag.tex.

Please don't start this mess again.  Simply stick to 8+3 characters
whereever possible and be portable.
