Yes, and no. Currently, you can for example mark an image attachment
(another MIME part) as inline, give it a cid (content id name), and
reference that within another part (like a HTML part) via this cid. Thus
it is a different part in the protocol, but can be displayed (with a
fitting viewer) inline, like $...$ maths.
