Installing pstricks

This is the PSTricks mailing list, devoted to discussions about computational
graphics in (La)TeX using the PSTricks package from Timothy van Zandt.
For help using this mailing list, see instructions at the end of message.

Its been a long time since I downloaded and installed pstricks, but the 
general steps are:

1. get the sources from CTAN (ftp.tex.ac.uk, ftp.dante.de). Hunt around a 
bit under tex-archive until you find it, or jump directly to the CTAN 
index: http://www.tex.ac.uk/tex-archive/help/Catalogue/catalogue.html and 
look for pstricks.

2. place the *.tex and *.sty files somewhere where TeX finds them, eg, 
under /texmf/tex; place the *.pro files where dvips finds them (/texmf/
dvips) and the documentation somewhere where the docs go, like /texmf/docs.

3. If this applies, don't forget to refresh the texmf tree database
