Well... That depends whether you're typing text (even maths) or
tabular material.
Most fonts with kern pairs for figures are OsF (most of them have
monowidth kerned numbers, as opposed to the common idea that OsFs are
proportionnally spaced).
Maybe the right way to do that would be to have a variant identifier
for tabular figures in Berry scheme, and install both versions of the
font, with a font switch when entering table modes.
After all, the year 2011 is not so far, and it would be a shame to
typeset it badly in opposition to the typographer's advice.
