Fonts are typically commercial copyrighted material.
They do not appear on CTAN for the same reason MS Word,
Adobe Pagemaker and Quark Express do not.
Some fonts are built inft PS printers, so you paid some license
fee for them indirectly when you paid for the printer. These fonts
can be used easily for printing but not previewing.
Some fonts are available with few restrictions. See for example
