I don't suppose that should be much of a surprise.  A legal alternative to
converting Mac <-> Wintel Truetype is to get one of two shareware apps:

Font Clerk
TT Converter

both from your nearest Umich/info-mac mirror; my nearest are at
ftp://sunsite.doc.ic.ac.uk/computing/systems/mac/

(if you don't mind making a mockery of copyright law, you can tell
Fontmonger to  build AFMs, and get it to convert a TT fount to T1.  Those
AFMs can then be converted to tfm files using fontinst or ATM2TFM.)

btw, do Truetype founts have any means of specifying kerning?
