I don't think that's quite right. ATM Deluxe works well for both
installing and managing fonts under Windows XP. What it doesn't do
(I'm told) is replace the native Windows font rendering (on-screen
display).

The distinction is between ATM Lite (which is said to be incompatible
with XP) and ATM Deluxe (which is compatible with XP).

In answer to the other question, the point of "managing" fonts
is that one can install, say, a thousand fonts, but have only a subset of
them active at any given time. By deactivating the less frequently
used ones, the font selection menus in applications become more
manageable. This also reduces the memory demand, at least under
some versions of Windows.

Hope that helps.
