[Xy-pic] xy-pic Digest, Vol 85, Issue 2

The following works in diagxy and, although I haven't tested it, I can see 
no reason it wouldn't work in native xy-pic (for which diagxy is a front 
end):

\morphism/@{>}|-*@{|}/[A`B;]
\morphism/@{>}|-*@{|}/<500,500>[A`B;]

\end{document}

Notice that it also works at angles other than horizontal.  The crucial 
part is |-*@{|}.  The | means center it vertically (this on a horizontal 
arrow), the - means center it horizontally, the star means (if I recall 
correctly) put the label in a 0 width box and finally @{|} tells what to 
put there.
