MacTeX installs TeX Live in /usr/local/texlive/2016, which is incidentally the default location suggested by TeXLive. It would be stupid for it to erase /opt/local/bin, since it is not going to use that<br class="">location, and since the user might want to keep their old TeX around.<br class=""><br class="">The MacTeX install does exactly the correct thing.
