... if you want to go the specialized editor way, and if you are on a Mac, you could also try Richard Koch's TexShop <a href="http://www.uoregon.edu/~koch/texshop/">http://www.uoregon.edu/~koch/texshop/</a> (written for Macs, so works only on Macs, but has been the model for other TeX editors, such as TeXworks.) As most Mac programs, it likes (and displays) unicode :-).<br>

I am away from home and don't have access to my Mac, so maybe others can help you more, But I am surprised to hear that TextEdit (I assume that's what you mean when you typed Texedit) doesn't work. I don't know any Indian languages but have used it for several other languages and it has always been well behaved. I assume you have enabled the appropriate keyboard in System Preferences/International.<br>

I have been using gedit on ubuntu (with scim method) to edit xelatex source files for indian language files fo far. Now, I have a new mac system and wanted to know what is the good editor for the same purpose. Default editors like Texedit etc dont seem to view the devanagari coded tex files. <br>
