Sorry, for my late response. I was busy testing what you suggested. The
following command runs and rebuilds some formats but not the XeTeX one:<br>
fmtutil --byfmt xetex<br>
Any ideas? Of course it produces some error messages regarding XeTeX, mostly about xetex.ini.<br>

<br>manually building the format files with<br><br> fmtutil --byfmt xetex<br><br> fmtutil --byfmt xelatex<br><br>and see what output you get. I expect these will give error messages,<br>and looking at the actual errors may make it clear where the problem
