[XeTeX] Strange problem with Devanagari in GNU FreeFont

Hi all,

I have just encountered the very same problem on the computer with
Fedora 17 where Devanagari in FreeFont used to work without problems.
The same method solved the problem. It seems that fontconfig sometimes
obeys the order of directories specified in the config files,
sometimes disobeys it. the moral of it is never allow fontconfig to
find two copies of the same font. Strange things will happen.
